It’s been a long year but winter in well on its way. The Cameron Peak Fire started in August and is still burning and only 92% contained. This means that highway 14 and most of the forest is closed. Hopefully the fire will be done soon so the highway and forest can reopen. The format this year will be a little different until that happens.
More people than normal are expected to be in the backcountry this year. Now is a great time to pull the books off the shelf and brush up on backcountry safety and snow science while we wait for the forest to reopen.
The first snow that lasted occurred on 10/20. There have been 3 significant events since then:
10/26/2020: 14″
11/09/2020: 6″
11/15/2020: 6″
Stay Healthy and be safe this winter.
